There are three flavors: MATE (GNOME 2), XFCE, and Headless (NO GUI / SERVER)

The headless image is for server applications where GUI is not required. It is the fastest and uses the lowest amount of memory and storage.
Headless images come in four sub-flavors: aarch64 (64-bit ARMv8) userspace, aarch64 (64-bit ARMv8) userspace with 3D GLES, armhf (32-bit ARMv7) userspace, armhf (32-bit ARMv7) userspace with 3D GLES

The headless images are for server and applications without GUI that demand the most performance. There are other variants for advanced users with special needs. you can find those images in the current directory.

GUI images require a few minutes to perform some setup on first boot. Subsequent boots are much faster.

For the best experience, we recommend having a heatsink and storage device with high write speed such as eMMC or performance-oriented MicroSD card.
The Samsung Pro and SanDisk Extreme MicroSD cards have write perform roughly 5x faster than Samsung Evo and SanDisk Ultra MicroSD cards.

We recommend Win32DiskImager or Etcher for flashing these images.

All images with Mali come with DRM, X11, Wayland, and FBDEV variants. Please use the update-alternatives system to install and select them.
update-alternatives --install /usr/local/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/mali mali /opt/libre-computer/model/aml-s905x-cc/mali/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/{drm,fbdev,wayland,x11-drm,x11-fbdev} 100
